Hyderabad: Dundigal police solved the murder of an 85-year-old woman within 24 hours of the crime, arresting a 36-year-old woman accused of killing the elderly victim for jewellery in Church Gagillapur village of Medchal-Malkajgiri district.
According to police, the case was registered as Crime No.108/2026 under Sections 103 and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The deceased was identified as Chinnabattini Susheelamma, a resident of Church Gagillapur. She was found murdered at her residence on February 2.
The accused, P. Kavitha, a labourer from the same village, had earlier worked at the victim’s house for about 15 days and gained her trust by frequently supplying toddy. On February 2 at around 2.30 pm, when the elderly woman was alone, the accused allegedly attacked her on the head with a stone, resulting in her death. She later stole gold earrings and a finger ring from the house and sold them at a local jewellery shop.
Police said the case was cracked using CCTV footage collected from the crime scene and the jewellery shop. CCTV cameras installed by a local resident, Srikar Reddy, played a crucial role in tracking the accused, and he will be honoured during a press meet.
