Metro India News | AMARAVATI

As part of taking forward the momentum developed in Amaravati by the NDA government,  the exercise for semi-high-speed suburban circular train has started. The government has decided to improve connectivity as well as traffic facilities in the area and also make available the semi-high-speed circular suburban railway service. The government has already identified a way connecting these important areas.

The Andhra Pradesh Metro Railway Corporation Limited (APMRCL) on Sunday directed the "Urban Mass Transit Company Limited" (UMTC) to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) on the feasibility for these suburban train services. Vijayawada and Guntur are the major cities under the Andhra Pradesh capital region development corporation (APCRDA). The railways estimates that a passenger train that travels a distance of 32.17 km from Guntur to Vijayawada it will take 1.2 hours.

The express train is expected to take an hour for the same distance.  However, the Railways has already said that it is not possible to run fast passenger train services for passengers in and around Amaravati. In this context, the Andhra Pradesh government strongly believes that a fast-paced semi-high-speed suburban rail system is required for the development of this regional hub. The central and state governments have decided to take up the project under the Suburban Railway Policy- 2017 on a joint venture model.
