Film Awards 2024 held after 14 years, reschristened as Gaddar Awards

The Telangana Gaddar Film Awards (TGFA), instituted by the Government of Telangana to honour excellence in Telugu cinema, were presented in a grand ceremony on Saturday at Hitex, Hyderabad after a gap of 14 years.  The last official film awards held in 2011, the Telangana government has revived the tradition with a renewed identity, naming the awards after the legendary revolutionary poet Gaddar.

The glittering evening was graced by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, and Government Advisor Vem Narender, alongside film personalities such as Balakrishna, Allu Aravind, Allu Arjun, Mani Ratnam, Suhasini, Vijay Deverakonda, and Sukumar. The awards night began with a ceremonial lamp-lighting by the Deputy CM and the Cinematography Minister, along with Telangana Film Development Corporation Chairman Dil Raju.

Among the major award winners, Kalki 2898 AD was named Best Feature Film and its director Nag Ashwin won the Best Director award. Allu Arjun recieved Best Leading Actor for Pushpa 2, while Nivetha Thomas won Best Leading Actress for 35-Chinna Katha Kadu. 

S. J. Suryah and Saranya Pradeep were recognised as Best Supporting Actor and Actress for Saripoda Sanivaram and Ambajipeta Marriage Band respectively. Bheems Ceciroleo was honoured as Best Music Director for Razakar. Sid Sriram and Shreya Ghoshal bagged Best Male and Female Playback Singer awards for Ooru Peru Bhairavakona and Pushpa 2 respectively. Other notable winners included Venky Atluri (Best Screenplay – Lucky Bhaskar), Chandra Bose (Best Lyricist – Raju Yadav), Vishwanath Reddy (Best Cinematographer – Gaami), and Nalla Srinu (Best Makeup Artist – Razakar).

Special awards were presented to icons of Indian cinema: Nandamuri Balakrishna (NTR National Award), Mani Ratnam (Paidi Jairaj Award), Sukumar (B. N. Reddy Award), Atluri Purna Chandra Rao (Nagireddy & Chakrapani Award), Vijay Deverakonda (Kantha Rao Award), and Yandamuri Veerendranath (Raghupathi Venkaiah Award). Performances by S. Thaman and Ram Miriyala added glamour to the event, establishing the TGFA as a prestigious, annual celebration of Telugu cinema and cultural excellence.
