Construction of dedicated buildings for women Self Help Groups is gathering pace across villages in Telangana, marking a major push towards grassroots women empowerment. So far, 8,193 sites have been identified, approvals have been secured for 6,261 buildings, and estimates have been prepared for 5,017 works. The first such building has already been inaugurated in Sarvepalli village of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, setting the tone for rapid state-wide implementation.

The initiative, spearheaded by Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Danasari Anasuya Seethakka, is being implemented under the Indira Mahila Shakti programme. It aims to provide dedicated infrastructure for women SHGs to function effectively as hubs of economic activity and social empowerment.

Highlighting the vision behind the programme, the Minister stated that establishing a strong platform for women in every village remains a top priority of the government. She emphasized that these buildings will act as centres for self employment, decision making, and collective growth, enabling women to expand livelihood opportunities and strengthen their economic independence. She directed officials to ensure timely completion so that the facilities can be utilized at the earliest.

Each building is being constructed on approximately 200 square yards at an estimated cost of Rs 10 lakh. A model building has already been completed in Sarvepalli village of Atmakur mandal in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, while another structure has come up in Alwal village of Keshampet mandal in Rangareddy district.

The buildings will be managed by Village Organisations, which are federations of SHGs at the village level. These centres will serve multiple purposes including conducting meetings, organizing training programmes, facilitating human resource development, and providing market spaces for women to showcase and sell their products and handicrafts.

The implementation is being carried out in coordination with the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty and the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department, ensuring streamlined execution at the grassroots level.
