The Telangana Rashtriya Lok Dal (TRLD) conducted a Round Table Conference on the "Future City Concept" on Saturday at Hotel Central Court, Lakdikapul. Various dignitaries expressed their views on this occasion. Prof. Manohar, Economist, stated that the Future City concept for Hyderabad is a welcome initiative, but it should include all sections of society, particularly the service sector. He further observed that due to improper planning, many great cities such as Kolkata and Chennai are facing decline today.
Trilok Tyagi, GS (Organisation), Rashtriya Lok Dal emphasized that in the name of the Future City, farmers and villages should not be sacrificed and that adequate compensation should be paid to affected farmers, along with employment opportunities and affordable alternative accommodation.
Tallojula Achari, Former BC Commission Member and BJP leader, stated that nearly 50,000 acres of land have been acquired from farmers in Mahabubnagar alone under various schemes, not even 10% of these projects have been developed and many farmers are yet to receive suitable compensation. He expressed apprehension that the Future City project might also end up as mere land pooling without achieving its intended objectives.
Prof. Nageshwar, Former MLC, stated that the Future City should be a self-sufficient and inclusive model that creates sustainable assets. He cited international examples such as San Francisco and Rome, as well as Chandigarh, which continues to stand out as one of India's best planned cities. Kapilavai Dileep Kumar, President of Telangana Rashtriya Lokdal Party stated that the Round Table Conference was an attempt to gather the opinions of intellectuals, political parties, and eminent citizens. He assured the gathering that the views expressed would be compiled and forwarded to the Government and the appropriate authorities at the earliest.
Chief Guest Dr. Mohd. Riyaz, Chairman, Libraries Corporation, welcomed both positive and critical views and stated that the Future City is one of the key objectives of the present Government. He observed that Hyderabad is the only city with significant scope for expansion and development. He said that the Government is committed to developing a self sufficient and sustainable model for the Future City
