GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan directed officials to urgently ramp up Anti-Larval Operations (ALO) across city zones to tackle rising mosquito menace. He issued the directive during a video conference with additional and zonal commissioners, and department heads on Monday.
The Commissioner emphasized that entomology staff assigned to ALOs were reportedly diverted to other duties in some zones. He instructed zonal and deputy commissioners to realign their focus strictly on mosquito control measures. Concerned about mosquito breeding in local lakes, he also directed the Lakes and Health wings to devise a plan for removing accumulated water weeds.
As part of pre-monsoon preparedness, the ongoing sanitation drive was reviewed. Sanitation AC Raghu Prasad briefed that from June 3 to 25, drives were completed in 120 wards, resulting in the removal of 3,900 metric tonnes of construction and demolition waste and 5,400 metric tonnes of garbage. He requested a 20-day extension from June 26 to complete operations in remaining colonies.
Addressing pending court cases, the Commissioner instructed zonal commissioners to respond promptly and appoint nodal officers to track case replies. All replies from Deputy Commissioners are to be vetted by respective zonal heads before submission. He also asked officials to consult the legal AC at headquarters for assistance.
