Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has sealed the ground and first floors of Mangalya Shopping Mall in Chikkadpally on Wednesday following its unauthorized occupancy without obtaining the required Occupancy Certificate.
Officials initiated action after receiving complaints about the mall's operation in a building that had secured construction permission but failed to acquire the mandatory Occupancy Certificate. The structure, originally approved for commercial and multiplex purposes by T. Vinay Kumar and others, consisted of three cellars, a ground floor, and five upper floors. Despite a show cause notice issued by GHMC demanding an explanation and relevant documents, no response was received from the occupier. Consequently, GHMC took action on June 11, sealing the occupied floors.
GHMC has reminded the public that as per Rule 26 of G.O. Ms. No.168 (dated April 7, 2012), buildings approved for construction must secure an Occupancy Certificate before being used. Occupying a structure without this certificate is a violation of building regulations. Officials urge property owners and occupants to comply with legal requirements to avoid similar enforcement actions.
