A new global coalition, the Alliance for Inclusive AI, has been launched to ensure artificial intelligence (AI) benefits billions of people, not just a few. Spearheaded by BFA Global, Caribou, and MSC, the Alliance aims to deliver responsible, practical AI solutions to 100 million people and mobilize US$100 million in blended finance by 2030.
AI is rapidly transforming economies and public services, but access remains uneven. Countries and communities without the right technology, infrastructure, or skills risk being left behind. Ajay Banga, World Bank Group President, emphasized that “Big AI will increase disparities, while ‘small AI’ — local models on local devices — can be highly productive for underserved communities.”
The Alliance focuses on six key areas: building foundational AI infrastructure for emerging markets; delivering practical AI solutions for underserved populations; developing local AI talent through universities; creating tools for low-resource environments; supporting governments and regulators in designing inclusive AI strategies; and establishing shared repositories of datasets, case studies, and toolkits.
Jessica Osborn, CEO of Caribou, highlighted that AI can only create real impact if marginalized communities help shape it. The coalition encourages technology providers, investors, governments, research institutions, and civil society groups to join the initiative.
Graham Wright, Co-Chair of MSC, warned that countries lacking digital infrastructure, skilled workforces, and supportive policies may face further marginalization. The Alliance aims to bridge this divide by promoting AI solutions that reflect local realities, particularly across financial inclusion, agriculture, climate resilience, and digital public services in the Global South.
By fostering collaboration and inclusive AI, the coalition seeks to ensure technology becomes a tool for equitable growth worldwide.
