TCA objects to HCA’s inter-district T20 league

The Telangana Cricket Association (TCA) has reiterated its strong objections to the Hyderabad Cricket Association’s (HCA) proposed “G. Venkata Swamy Memorial Inter-District T20 League,” citing grave violations of BCCI rules, binding judicial orders, and established governance norms.

In a detailed representation, TCA stated that the proposed league violates BCCI Rule 38 relating to conflict of interest and disregards binding directives, including the BCCI order dated July 11, 2021, and the Bombay High Court order dated March 21, 2025. Despite repeated representations, HCA has allegedly continued to act in defiance of these mandates.

TCA recalled that the same tournament was proposed in 2018 but was rejected by the BCCI for failing to meet the objectives of a recognised state association tournament. Reintroducing it now, without approval or compliance, amounts to a repetition of illegality, it said.

A central concern raised is the serious conflict of interest involved. The tournament is named after late G. Venkata Swamy, father of former HCA presidents G. Vivekanand and G. Vinod, the latter currently an HCA member. TCA pointed to a major dispute between HCA and Vishaka Industries Ltd., where the High Court directed HCA to pay Rs. 67 crore. The amount remains unpaid, resulting in frozen accounts and ongoing investigations by CID, ACB, and ED.

TCA further alleged that the league is being conducted without BCCI or IPL Governing Council approval, without adherence to codes of conduct, and at the discretion of individuals with vested interests, raising serious governance and financial integrity concerns.

With several matters still pending between TCA and HCA, TCA urged authorities to immediately halt the league, enforce compliance with BCCI and court orders, and restrain HCA from conducting inter-district tournaments until all disputes and governance issues are resolved.
