In a strong show of solidarity for Indian cinema’s Oscar aspirations, the film fraternity came together to support Gondhal, India’s official submission for the 99th Academy Awards. A special screening of the Santosh Davakhar-directed Marathi psychological cerebral thriller, hosted by Amruta Fadnavis, witnessed an enthusiastic turnout from members of the film industry, with several prominent names extending their support to the film and its team.

The screening was attended by filmmakers and actors including Madhur Bhandarkar, Mahima Makwana, Daisy Shah, Amruta Subhash, Samwedna Suwalka, Maanvi Gagroo and Kumar Varun, among others, alongside the film’s cast and crew. Their presence made the evening a celebration of a film that has taken a culturally rooted Marathi story onto an international platform.

Amruta Fadnavis said, “It is a proud moment for us, for Maharashtra. Congratulations to the entire team, and special mention for Santosh ji for such a beautiful storytelling. After a long while Marathi film has been selected as India’s official entry into the Oscars. Gondhal is a rustic, gripping tale that highlights the traditions from a village, it shows how the society wants to oppress women but women outshine and showcase their personality.

The cinematography, music, direction perfectly sync with one another. Definitely an inspiration for all of us." Directed by Santosh Davakhar, Gondhal explores a cerebral psychological landscape shaped by desire, deception and devotion. Rooted in Maharashtra’s cultural traditions, the film follows newlyweds Suman and Anandrao as mysterious events begin to challenge their relationship and beliefs.
