Hyderabad: The Telangana government has issued a notification for allocation of liquor shop licenses. The application fee has been increased from Rs 2 lakh to 3 lakh, and the license period will be for two years i.e. from December 2025 to November 2027. Reservations have been introduced in the allocation process, and as such 15% for Goud community, 10% for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and 5% for Scheduled Tribes (STs). The allotment of shops will be done through a lottery system. Currently, more than 2,600 liquor shops exist across Telangana state.
As for the License Fee Slabs (based on population as per 2011 Census): Up to 5,000 population – Rs 50 lakh; 5,001 to 50,000 – Rs 55 lakh; 50,001 to 1,00,000 - Rs 60 lakh; 1,00,001 to 5,00,000 – Rs 65 lakh; 5,00,001 to 20,00,000 – Rs₹85 lakh and above 20 lakh – Rs1.10 crore. The current license period ends in November 2025., after which the new licensees will be selected and allowed to operate from December.
