Govt plans to set up more Mahila Marts in Telangana

Chief Minister A.  Revanth Reddy announced that the State government is planning to setting up more Mahila Marts in Telangana. Addressing the Telangana Praja Palana Dinotsavam after unfurling the national flag on the occasion of Telangana Merger Day at Public Gardens in Hyderabad on Wednesday, the Chief Minister said the experiment has proved that women can do wonders if they are given  opportunity. The Khammam “Mahila Mart”, which was specially set up to sell the products of DWACRA women’s associations, is running successfully.

"Now, the State government is planning to set up more Mahila Marts across the Telangana State," Revanth Reddy announced. The Chief Minister further stated that the ‘Indira Mahila Shakti’ scheme, which was launched with the aim of economic self-reliance of women, is becoming a tool for their economic and social empowerment.

"To promote women as entrepreneurs, the government has distributed Rs 21,000 crore interest-free loans. Under the Indira Mahila Shakti Scheme, we also provided 150 buses to self-help groups and are  helping them to earn money by renting them out to RTC. The state government has provided Rs 6,790 crore benefit to women by launching free RTC bus travel facility. The  scheme also achieved a milestone of  issuing 200 crore zero tickets," Revanth Reddy said.

The Chief Minister said the success stories of Telangana women in the people's government stood as an example for the country. 

"With a  slogan of “Women’s Empowerment-Telangana Progress”,  the state government launched a slew of  programmes with an aim of  making one crore women as millionaires and the efforts are yielding good results. As part of the Indira Mahila Shakti Policy, women groups earned a profit of Rs. 15.50 lakh in just 6  months through a petrol bank set up under the auspices of the Mahila Samakhya in Narayanpet district," he added.
