BRS constituency in-charge Basu Hanumanthu Naidu on Thursday alleged that the government is imposing unnecessary restrictions in the name of maize procurement and pushing farmers into distress. On Thursday, he visited the maize procurement center at the Agricultural Market Yard in Gadwal town along with farmers and party leaders. Speaking on the occasion, he alleged that despite a significant increase in maize cultivation compared to last year, the Congress government has set up procurement centers in a negligent manner.
He expressed anger over the imposition of several restrictions in maize procurement, such as limiting procurement to only 25 quintals per acre and insisting on a maximum moisture content of 14%. He further alleged that even after farmers brought their produce to the market yard ten days ago and received tokens, the authorities have not yet started weighing the maize. He warned that if timely and complete procurement is not ensured, the BRS party will organize large-scale protests along with farmers.
