Govt schools lack compound walls, safety concerns raised

A large number of government schools in Mahabubabad district continue to function without proper compound walls, leaving campuses vulnerable to encroachment, stray animals, and anti-social activities. The issue affects several Zilla Parishad and Mandal Parishad schools, as well as some residential (Gurukul) institutions across the district. According to local sources, heavy rains over the past two years caused compound walls at several government schools to collapse. In many other schools, compound walls were never constructed.

As a result, cattle frequently enter school premises, while some campuses reportedly become gathering spots for anti-social elements during the night, raising concerns about the safety and security of students and school property. Teachers say the absence of compound walls has made it difficult to safeguard school premises and maintain campus facilities. The lack of secure boundaries has also affected efforts to improve the school environment.

In some schools, compound walls have been built but gates are still missing, limiting their effectiveness in providing security. Teachers and local residents have urged the government to take immediate steps to construct compound walls and install gates at every government school in the district to ensure the safety of students, protect school infrastructure, and maintain clean and secure learning environments.
