Hyderabad: Hyderabad witnessed a sudden change in weather as hailstorm and heavy rains lashed several parts of the city on Sunday. The Meteorological Department had issued warnings earlier, and intense showers with strong winds affected multiple localities.

Areas including Secunderabad, Bowenpally, Tirumalagiri, Alwal, Patny, Paradise, Marredpally and surrounding cantonment zones experienced hail accompanied by gusty winds. In Kukatpally and nearby regions such as Moosapet, JNTU, Nizampet, KPHB Colony, Pragathi Nagar and Bachupally, hailstorms and heavy rain were reported in the evening. The sudden downpour surprised residents as the city had been experiencing intense heat in recent days.

Strong winds uprooted a large tree in Chintal and Padmanagar, damaging two electricity poles. Several two-wheelers were also damaged due to the falling debris. Waterlogging was reported on roads, causing inconvenience to motorists. Heavy rain was also recorded in areas along the Outer Ring Road, slowing traffic movement.

Officials had warned of thunderstorms, lightning and hail activity continuing for a few hours. Citizens were advised to avoid unnecessary travel and take precautions. While the storm caused disruption, it also brought relief from the prevailing heat and humidity, as temperatures dropped sharply across the city.
