Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Satyakumar Yadav on Sunday called for preserving Telugu language and culture. Speaking at the 6th “World Telugu Writer’s Conference” held at Vijayawada, he expressed his concern that a culture of looking down on the Telugu language was slowly growing.
He praised the literary scholars and writers who had written many works and given them to us. He assured that he would speak about the importance of Telugu language in the forth coming cabinet meeting.
He expressed his concern that the number of people who cannot read and write Telugu is gradually increasing. He said that he is now teaching Telugu to his children but they could only speak Telugu but they can't read or write.
Declaring that language development is in the hands of the government, he said that in the past few years, there has been neglect in education in Telugu and a growing perception that studying in Telugu will not get one a job. He also said that efforts were made to foster a passion for the English language.
Saying that one’s identity and survival were incomplete without language, he recalled that there was a Telugu language study centre in Mysore. While efforts were made to bring it to AP in 2020, he lamented that the then YCP did not make any effort to allocate the building.
He said that the present government has initiated steps for the ancient Telugu language study center. He also said that in the future, efforts will be made to bring Government Orders (GOs) in Telugu apart from English.
Mentioning that Prime Minister Modi is giving priority to regional languages, he said that good days will come in the future for regional languages. The minister called upon the usage of technology for translating from other languages to Telugu and vice-versa.
