With temperatures set to rise, District Collector K. Haritha placed heatstroke prevention at the top of the agenda, directing health officials to intensify awareness among the public. At a review meeting held on Thursday at the Integrated District Collectorate with District Medical and Health Officer Seetharam, she instructed that precautionary measures reach every village.
The Collector said ASHA and Anganwadi workers must keep ORS packets readily available and educate people on staying hydrated and avoiding peak heat hours. She also stressed sanitation drives in rural areas and called for strict monitoring of staff attendance in government health centres. Officials were asked to ensure 100 percent registration of pregnant women and promote institutional deliveries, while also identifying and treating tuberculosis patients.
Reviewing paddy procurement preparedness, she directed officials to protect farmers and staff from heat by arranging temporary sheds, tarpaulins, drinking water, and buttermilk at centres. Farmers were advised to bring paddy only before 11 am or after 4 pm, with first-aid kits and ice packs kept ready.
