The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has launched a major e-waste recycling initiative to scientifically dispose of electronic waste and outdated IT equipment that had been lying unused across its headquarters and various divisions for the past 15 to 20 years. As part of the exercise, Telangana Green Technology Services (TGTS) has appointed an authorized recycling agency for the collection, transportation and environmentally safe processing of the e-waste. The materials identified for disposal include old printers, CRT monitors, CPUs, UPS systems and several other obsolete electronic devices.
Officials said the recycling process is being carried out in accordance with existing e-waste management rules and environmental protection guidelines. The initiative aims to ensure the safe handling of electronic waste while preventing potential environmental hazards arising from improper disposal. The water board stated that scientific management of e-waste is an important step towards sustainable development and environmental conservation. By recycling outdated electronic equipment through authorized channels, the organization is promoting responsible waste management practices and supporting green initiatives.
The loading and transportation of the accumulated e-waste is currently underway, and the materials will be shifted to an authorized recycling facility for environmentally compliant processing and disposal.
