Amazon MGM Studios officially begins casting process for the next James Bond film, with Nina Gold leading the global search for 007

The search for the next James Bond is officially underway, with Amazon MGM Studios auditioning actors to fill the role of Ian Fleming’s iconic British secret agent 007.

According to Variety, the studio has hired acclaimed casting director Nina Gold to find a successor to Daniel Craig. The new actor will headline one of global cinema’s most enduring franchises with a screen history stretching back to 1962.

“The search for the next James Bond is underway. While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right,” Amazon MGM Studios said in a statement to the outlet.

Nina Gold joins Bond search Amazon MGM Studios has hired acclaimed casting director Nina Gold to lead the search for the next James Bond following Daniel Craig’s exit from the franchise. Gold is widely known for her work on Game of Thrones, The Crown and multiple Star Wars films. She has also handled casting for acclaimed movies 

including Les Misérables, The Martian and Conclave. In 2025, Gold received an Oscar nomination for Hamnet after the Academy introduced a casting category for the first time.

Denis Villeneuve to direct next James Bond film

Acclaimed filmmaker Denis Villeneuve has been roped in to direct the next James Bond film. Villeneuve is best known for directing Dune, Dune: Part Two, Blade Runner 2049 and 

Arrival. The screenplay will be penned by Steven Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders. Producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman are backing the project, while Villeneuve’s longtime creative partner and wife Tanya Lapointe will serve as executive producer.

From 1962’s Dr. No to No Time To Die, six actors have officially portrayed the legendary British spy James Bond.

Sean Connery: The original 007 set the standard with charm, confidence and action, becoming one of cinema’s most iconic secret agents.

George Lazenby: Lazenby appeared in only one Bond film but later earned appreciation for his emotional and realistic portrayal of the spy.

Roger Moore:  Moore brought humour, sophistication and wit to Bond, becoming one of the franchise’s longest-serving and most loved actors.

Timothy Dalton: Dalton introduced a darker, serious and realistic Bond inspired closely by author Ian Fleming’s original novels and vision.

Pierce Brosnan: Brosnan modernised Bond during the 1990s, successfully reviving the franchise with stylish action and global box-office success.

Daniel Craig: Craig reinvented Bond with emotional depth, gritty action and critically-acclaimed performances across five blockbuster spy thrillers.
