Hyd police to launch co-operative society for home guards

Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, IPS, lauded the vital role of Home Guards in maintaining law and order in the city, noting that their duties are on par with regular police personnel. He announced plans to establish a special ‘Home Guard Co-operative Society’ under the City Police Department to support their welfare. The announcement came during the grand Home Guards Raising Day celebrations held on Saturday at the CAR Headquarters in Petlaburj. CP Sajjanar, attending as the Chief Guest, inspected the parade and received the guard of honour.

Addressing the gathering, he praised the dedication of nearly 5,000 Home Guards in Hyderabad and noted that 2,000 had already joined the proposed Co-operative Society, urging the rest to enroll. He also highlighted the government’s consideration of providing double-bedroom houses to eligible Home Guards.

The Commissioner stressed the importance of renewing driving licenses to avoid insurance issues in case of road accidents and warned that strict action would be taken against those neglecting duties or engaging in corruption.

Commendation certificates were presented to outstanding performers in the parade, and 25 Home Guards were recognized for excellence in duty. Ex-gratia cheques were distributed to families of 18 deceased Home Guards. Senior officials, including DCP (CAR) Hqtrs Rakshita Krishnamurthy and Home Guards Commandant NV Kishan Rao, attended the event.
