Hyderabad Cyber Police arrest 37 in January

In January 2026, Cyber Crime Police Station, Hyderabad registered 117 FIRs and arrested 37 individuals from seven states in connection with 26 cases. The arrested accused were linked to 86 cases across India, with bank transactions totaling around Rs. 65 crore. During the month, Rs. 71,91,371 was successfully refunded to victims. Cases included investment fraud (15), digital arrest (2), social media offences involving CSAM-POCSO (4), business fraud (1), gaming fraud (1), and job fraud (3).

State-wise, cases registered included Telangana (9), Andhra Pradesh (6), Maharashtra (1), Karnataka (1), West Bengal (1), Bihar (1), and Delhi (1). Property seized included 26 mobile phones, 1 laptop, 57 cheque books, 79 SIM cards, 62 debit cards, 15 shell stamps, and 8 QR code scanners. One high-profile investment fraud involved a Hyderabad resident who lost Rs. 11.17 lakh to a fake crypto trading platform promoted through a matrimonial website. Two accused linked to the scam from Andhra Pradesh were arrested, and mobile phones and SIM cards were seized.

Zonal Cyber Cells also saw success under the C-MITRA initiative, receiving 1,706 NCRP petitions and registering 315 FIRs. Thirteen individuals involved in 13 cases across India were arrested, with Rs. 10,65,003 refunded to victims. Authorities warned the public to remain cautious of fake government profiles, social media investment schemes, phishing links, malicious APK files, and digital arrest scams.
