In a decisive move to enhance road safety, the Hyderabad Traffic Police has launched surprise daytime checks to crack down on drunk driving across the city. Acting on the directive of C.V. Anand, IPS, Director General and Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, this new initiative marks a significant shift in enforcement strategy, extending vigilance beyond nighttime hours.
Contrary to prevailing perceptions, recent data has revealed a spike in daytime drunk driving incidents involving two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and transport vehicles. In response, traffic personnel have been deployed at accident-prone hotspots, carefully selected to avoid congestion while maintaining traffic flow.
Those caught driving under the influence will face legal action under the Motor Vehicles Act, including steep fines, possible imprisonment, and either temporary or permanent suspension of their driver’s license. Offenders will be produced before the courts.
Hyderabad Traffic Police emphasized that drunk driving puts not only the violator’s life at risk but also threatens the safety of innocent commuters. The department reiterated its commitment to public safety by continuing 24x7 enforcement measures.
Commuters are urged to refrain from driving under the influence and cooperate with law enforcement efforts. Through sustained and strategic checks, authorities aim to instill greater awareness and deter reckless behavior on the roads.
