Hyderabad Police have categorically dismissed as fake the viral social media posts claiming a sharp rise in chain snatchings and violent crimes due to rising gold prices. The misleading messages allege that interstate criminal gangs have set up base in Hyderabad and are targeting women, particularly those wearing gold jewellery in public places.

In an official clarification, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar stated that such claims are completely baseless and aimed at creating unnecessary panic among citizens. He said there is no abnormal surge in chain snatching incidents, nor is there any specific intelligence suggesting the presence of organised interstate gangs operating in the city.

The police warned citizens against forwarding unverified and fear-mongering messages on social media platforms. Commissioner Sajjanar said strict legal action would be taken against individuals spreading false information that could disturb public peace and law and order.

Refuting claims that police are unable to catch offenders despite CCTV footage, the police said Hyderabad remains a safe city with robust surveillance and prompt response systems. The public has been urged to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.

Citizens were advised to report any suspicious activity by dialling 100 and rely only on official police communication channels for authentic information. The Hyderabad Police reiterated that public safety remains their top priority and appealed for responsible use of social media.
