Hyderabad City Police have launched a new public outreach initiative by partnering with social media influencers to raise awareness about cybercrime under the ongoing ‘Jagrut Hyderabad – Surakshit Hyderabad’ campaign. The initiative, spearheaded by City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, IPS, aims to educate citizens about online frauds through short, engaging and easy-to-understand videos.
As part of the drive, popular content creators have voluntarily joined hands with the police to explain common cyber scams in a simple and relatable format. The videos are being shared through the official social media handles of Hyderabad City Police and the Commissioner, ensuring wide reach and stronger public engagement. The campaign blends entertainment with practical cyber safety advice to connect effectively with younger audiences.
Recent awareness videos have highlighted trending frauds such as lottery scams and the so-called “digital arrest” scam. In one clip, a fictional scenario shows a woman confidently rejecting a fraudulent call claiming she has won Rs 25 lakh and refusing to share her OTP. Another video exposes scammers impersonating officials from agencies like the CBI, police or RBI through video calls to intimidate victims. The police clarified that no government agency conducts investigations via video calls.
Citizens are urged not to panic when receiving suspicious calls and to immediately dial the cybercrime helpline 1930 or file complaints at cybercrime.gov.in.
