Hyderabad records 40% monsoon rainfall deficit

Despite receiving brief spells of rain on Sunday afternoon, Hyderabad continues to face a severe rainfall deficit of nearly 40 per cent during the ongoing monsoon season. Several parts of the city, including Gachibowli, Madhapur, Hitec City, Tellapur, Nanakramguda, Shaikpet, Tolichowki, Kukatpally, Kapra, Moula Ali, Ghatkesar, Keesara and Charminar, received light to moderate showers, providing relief from humid weather conditions. According to Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) data and IMD Hyderabad observations, Hyderabad recorded little to no rainfall in the previous 24 hours before Sunday’s showers.

The maximum temperature in the city hovered around 33.4 degrees Celsius, while Amberpet recorded 32.6 degrees Celsius. Across Telangana, Suryapet recorded the highest temperature at 38.3 degrees Celsius. Since the beginning of the monsoon season on June 1, Hyderabad has received 152.3 mm rainfall against the normal 255.8 mm, resulting in a 40 per cent deficit. Medchal-Malkajgiri district has witnessed an even larger shortfall, with a 59 per cent deficit after receiving only 102.6 mm rainfall against the normal 251.5 mm.
