The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA), which is cracking down on illegal structures in Greater Hyderabad Muncipal Corporation (GHMC), has stepped up its tempo in Manikonda Municipality.
On Thursday, officials removed commercial shutters in an apartment in Alkapuri Colony. Complaints were received that commercial complexes were being run after obtaining residential permits. HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganathan inspected the illegal structures last week.
A heated argument took place between the officials and the businessmen. The businessmen expressed their anger saying that when they had paid lakhs of rupees in commercial tax to the Manikonda Municipality, how could their establishments be demolished? The businessmen protested that the demolitions were carried out under the pressure of a big man. The traders were outraged that the demolitions were carried out without giving any notice.
Despite the action of HYDRAA, the shop owners, residential welfare association members and the builder, however, have continued to assert that all necessary permissions were obtained and that there were no construction related violations.
HYDRAA Commissioner Ranganathan responded to the removal of commercial shutters by officials in an apartment in Alkapuri Colony of Manikonda. He condemned the comments made by the businessmen. He said that a local builder is behind all this. Ranganath clarified that the government will issue a detailed information soon.
