India's relationship with chocolate is getting sweeter and a lot more adventurous. What was once reserved for celebrations and gifting is now finding its way into everyday grocery baskets. Ahead of World Chocolate Day (July 7), Instamart’s order analysis reveals that Milk chocolate continues to be India's favourite, followed by chocolate-coated wafer bars. Fruit & nut, caramel and hazelnut complete the country's most-loved flavours, proving that while consumers are eager to experiment, nostalgia still anchors India's chocolate basket. The internet's favourite Dubai chocolate: Orders for viral pistachio-filled chocolates jumped 11,739%, making it the fastest-growing chocolate trend. India still picks the classics: 4 in every 10 chocolates ordered are classic milk chocolates.1 in every 5 chocolates ordered is now premium or functional; Mumbai leads the way

India's biggest chocolate enthusiast hailed from Kochi, placing 277 chocolate orders over the past year, roughly three every four days. Mysore followed close behind, with its top chocolate lover placing 205 orders. One Ahmedabadi chocoholic spent over ₹1.59 lakh on chocolates in a year. Premium chocolate isn't just a metro affair. Shoppers from Meerut, Indore, Surat, Varanasi, Guntur, Mysore, Rajkot, Ranchi, Gorakhpur and Vellore feature prominently, also featured among India's biggest chocolate spenders, signalling growing demand from beyond the metros. Sugar-free chocolate orders grew 85%, while dark chocolate demand rose nearly 50% year-on-year. Protein chocolates also emerged as one of the fastest-growing segments, signalling growing interest in chocolates that combine indulgence with functionality.
Bengaluru is India's milk chocolate capital, Hyderabad leads caramel cravings, Mumbai has the strongest preference for premium chocolates, while cities like Kochi and Kolkata are quietly building a taste for hazelnut and white chocolate.
Premium chocolate isn't just a metro story anymore. While Mumbai tops the country for premium chocolate purchases, cities such as Surat, Vadodara, Kolhapur and Siliguri are also emerging as premium chocolate hotspots, suggesting indulgence is spreading well beyond India's biggest metros.
