The ongoing crisis in the Middle East has disrupted air travel in India, with 225 international flights cancelled at Mumbai and Delhi airports on Sunday following US and Israel attacks on Iran and the closure of Gulf airspaces.
At Mumbai Airport, 125 flights were cancelled, including 67 departures and 58 arrivals, according to sources. Delhi Airport saw at least 100 cancellations, with 60 departures and 40 arrivals affected.
Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), which operates Indira Gandhi International Airport, warned passengers that west-bound international flights may face schedule changes due to the evolving political situation.
Mumbai International Airport Ltd had earlier issued a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) restricting the acceptance of diversion flights from 9 p.m. on Saturday until 8 a.m. Sunday. The decision was prompted by limited parking space, with several flights forced to return to their origin or divert to nearby airports.
The Civil Aviation Ministry had estimated that domestic carriers would cancel 444 international flights on Sunday amid the Gulf airspace closure. Passengers traveling internationally from Mumbai and Delhi were advised to check flight schedules before heading to the airports.
Airlines and airport authorities are monitoring the situation closely and coordinating to manage passenger traffic, though disruptions are expected to continue until the airspace situation stabilizes.
Passengers are urged to stay updated via official airport announcements and airline notifications as the geopolitical developments in the Middle East continue to affect international travel.
