Once Maoist bastion, now ready for tourist arrivals

Not so long ago, noone dared to enter Karreguttalu (Black Hills). The 60-odd km long hill range along the Telangana–Chhattisgarh–Odisha border was totally under the control of Maoists. With the Maoist activity significantly weakened, thanks to the coordinated operations by the Telangana Police, Greyhounds, CRPF, CoBRA and Chhattisgarh Police, the area is now bereft of any activity. More than 700 Maoists had surrendered during Operation Kagar.

The Telangana government planned to tap Karregutta’s tourism potential.  The road from Pamuru to Chalamadava has been completed, while blacktopping works are set to begin shortly. Electricity, mobile connectivity and other basic facilities are being developed.

Scenic beauty

The Karreguttalu Hill range is replete with hills and valleys ant in some areas, one can wade through 15 to 20 peaks. The landscape is interspersed with waterfalls, cabes and narrow valleys. What makes the terrain different is even locals have not completely explored it and it has huge potential for development. There is huge potential for caving and rock climbing.

Gotti Koya tribes heave sigh of relief

With developmental activity, the Gotti Koya tribes that inhabit the area are going to benefit immensely. Improvements in healthcare, transportation, education is bound to improve their life, says Ravi Kiran, a sociologist who has worked in the region. It may be noted that a police outpost is coming up at Pamanuru village in Venkatapuram mandal.

Telangana DGP visits Karraguttalu

Telangana DGP C.V. Anand on Monday visited Karreguttalu (Black Hills).Inspecting ongoing road works, Anand unfurled the National Flag and released white doves as a symbol of peace, marking the region’s transition from decades of Left Wing Extremism to development.

During the visit, the DGP distributed essential commodities to Gutti Koya families near the Pamuru camp and assured them of continued government support.

Additional DGP Sanjay Jain, IG Chandra Shekhar Reddy, Intelligence IG Karthikeya, SIB SP Sindhu Sharma, Mulugu Collector Borkade Hemanth Sahadeorao, Mulugu SP Sudhir Ramnath Kekan, District Forest Officer Vikas Meena, CRPF officers and officials from the Revenue, Tourism and other departments accompanied the DGP.
