YSR Congress Party president and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy launched a scathing attack on the Chandrababu Naidu-led coalition government, accusing it of pushing Andhra Pradesh into systemic decline and branding the proposed privatisation of government medical colleges as one of the biggest scams in the state’s history.
Addressing a meeting of senior party leaders, legislators, coordinators, and district presidents at the YSRCP central office in Tadepalli, Jagan described the party’s ‘One Crore Signatures’ campaign as a historic success, claiming that no such massive public mobilisation had ever taken place in the country. He said a total of 1,04,11,136 citizens had endorsed the campaign, reflecting widespread public opposition to the government’s policies.
Taking direct aim at the medical education reforms, Jagan questioned the logic of handing over government medical colleges to private entities while simultaneously allocating ₹120 crore of public money towards staff salaries. “Is there a bigger scam than this?” he asked, alleging gross misuse of public funds. He congratulated party workers at all levels, from village cadres to senior leaders, for making the movement a success.
Jagan further alleged that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu himself had admitted that his political graph is falling, and accused the coalition government of failing to deliver any tangible benefits to the people despite presenting two state budgets. He claimed that welfare schemes introduced during the YSRCP regime, including fee reimbursement and Rythu Bharosa, had been dismantled.
Asserting that privatisation amounted to exploitation, Jagan said essential sectors such as education and healthcare must remain under government control. He recalled that the YSRCP government had merged the APSRTC into the state system to protect public transport, while accusing the present regime of allowing all institutions to deteriorate. He also alleged that the Chief Minister was shifting blame onto district collectors to conceal his own administrative failures.
Earlier in the day, vehicles carrying copies of the one crore signatures from across the state reached Tadepalli, from where Jagan flagged them off to the AP Raj Bhavan. Later, he led a delegation of YSRCP leaders to Vijayawada, paid tributes at the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Social Justice Memorial, and proceeded to the Lok Bhavan.
Jagan and senior party leaders met Governor Abdul Nazeer and formally submitted the representations containing the signatures. He explained the public sentiment against the privatisation of government medical colleges, urging the Governor to intervene in what he described as a matter of public interest and social justice.
