Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy strongly refuted allegations made by BRS leader K.T. Rama Rao that the Congress government was indulging in vengeance politics. Speaking in the Assembly on Thursday, Revanth Reddy stated that if he had acted with political revenge, KCR’s family would not be seated in the Assembly but serving jail terms in Chanchalguda or Cherlapally prisons.

Recalling his past imprisonment, he described the inhumane treatment he endured when he was jailed for 16 days under the previous BRS government. He stated that he was confined to a small, shabby room with a tube light left on all night, surrounded by large lizards, and denied sleep. Also, I was not allowed to attend my daughter's engagement ceremony earlier when the BRS government tried what all it could do so that I could not go from Cherlapally jail to attend the function for a few hours. Despite these injustices, he emphasized that he did not retaliate in the same manner after assuming power, demonstrating wisdom and governance focused on development rather than vendetta.

Revanth Reddy further accused the BRS government of using paid artists to release a derogatory video against him and his family on social media recently. Despite having the authority to take strict action, he maintained his composure. He pointed out that the Telangana society is closely observing the actions of both the ruling and opposition parties, and it is evident who is truly indulging in vendetta politics.

BRS's legacy: A mountain of Debt burdening Telangana

Countering the opposition’s claims regarding farm loan waivers, Revanth Reddy presented official figures demonstrating his government's achievements in just 10 months compared to BRS's 10-year tenure. He stated that while the BRS government waived only Rs. 16,908 crores in a decade, the Congress government successfully waived Rs. 20,616.89 crores in 10 months, benefitting over 25 lakh farmers.

Additionally, the Congress government disbursed Rs. 7,625 crore under the Rythu Bandhu scheme, which the previous BRS government had failed to clear. The Rythu Bharosa scheme was also enhanced from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 12,000 per farmer, significantly benefiting the agricultural community.

On financial matters, Revanth Reddy highlighted that the BRS government left Telangana with an enormous debt burden of Rs. 8,19,151 crores, while his government, in just 15 months, incurred only Rs. 4,682 crores after repaying Rs. 1,53,359 crores of outstanding dues. He criticized the opposition for failing to acknowledge these achievements and instead focusing on baseless allegations.

Irregularities on irrigation projects will be exposed

Revanth Reddy addressed controversies surrounding land acquisition, stating that the Congress government ensured fair compensation to the displaced, unlike the BRS regime, which forcefully acquired land. He pointed out that his government offered Rs. 20 lakhs to land acquisition victims in Lagacharla and Rs. 5 lakhs for house construction under the Indiramma scheme.

Slamming the Kaleshwaram project, he called it a financial disaster with zero output despite an investment of Rs. 1 lakh crore. He accused the BRS government of fraud in the redesigning of Pranahita-Chevella and Kaleshwaram projects, inflating costs from Rs. 36,000 crores to Rs. 1.50 lakh crores. He announced that a report confirming these irregularities would be tabled in the next Assembly session.

Revanth Reddy reiterated his commitment to Telangana’s progress, citing new infrastructure projects such as the Musi River projects, Metro rail, and the Regional Ring Road. He also emphasized the Congress government's efforts in attracting Rs. 2 lakh crores in investments post their participation in the Davos summit.
