Jupally urges NRIs to promote tourism in Telangana

Minister for Tourism and Culture Jupally Krishna Rao has called upon Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) to partner with the State government in promoting Telangana as a global tourism destination by introducing its attractions to their friends and colleagues abroad and encouraging them to visit the State.

Addressing the 19th American Telugu Association (ATA) Conference at the Baltimore Convention Center in the United States, the Minister also invited the American Telugu Association and other NRI organisations to adopt tourist destinations and heritage sites in Telangana and contribute to their conservation, restoration and development.

 Jupally said the Telugu diaspora could play a significant role in taking Telangana’s rich tourism potential to a wider global audience. The government, he said, was committed to showcasing the State’s heritage, culture, history and natural attractions to the world and sought the active participation of the Telugu diaspora in this endeavour.

 The Minister said the government was also making efforts to establish an NRI Bhavan in Hyderabad at an estimated cost of Rs 10 crore. The proposed facility would provide multiple services to visiting NRIs under one roof and function as a coordination and facilitation centre for the overseas Telugu community.

Appreciating the contributions of the Telugu diaspora, Jupally Krishna Rao said Telugu people settled abroad had made significant contributions in education, technology, business and entrepreneurship while continuing to preserve and promote the Telugu language, literature, arts, culture and traditions.

He commended the American Telugu Association, established in 1990, for bringing together Telugu people in the United States and for its sustained efforts to preserve Telugu language, culture and heritage for future generations.

The Minister also acknowledged the contribution of NRIs to the development of their native villages and to Telangana’s economy, and urged them to continue supporting the State’s development and tourism promotion efforts.
