The announcement of Justice B. Sudershan Reddy as the INDI Bloc’s candidate for the Vice President election has evoked widespread appreciation across Telangana, with intellectuals, legal luminaries, and civil society leaders hailing the decision as a recognition of the state and its people.

Prof. Kodandaram, former Chairman of the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) and President of the Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS), expressed immense happiness at the choice. “This is a recognition for the whole of Telangana as a state and its people,” he said.

Recalling Justice Sudershan Reddy’s past association with socialist party and with Ram Manohar Lohia and involvement in social causes and agitations, Kodandaram stressed that his nomination is symbolic of respect for all social and just causes he championed. “As an intellectual, he played a key role in the Telangana statehood cause and gave expert views to Union Minister S. Jaipal Reddy when the UPA government was preparing the draft AP Reorganisation Bill,” he noted, while also highlighting his distinguished legal career and service in top judicial positions.

Echoing similar sentiments, retired High Court judge Justice Chandra Kumar congratulated Sudershan Reddy on his candidature. “He is a good choice. Choosing the candidature of a Constitutional and Legal expert augurs well for the democracy of this country,” he remarked. According to Justice Kumar, Sudershan Reddy’s profound knowledge of the Constitution, democracy, and legal systems makes him uniquely qualified to safeguard fundamental rights. “He would stand on behalf of the people of the country more effectively than others,” he asserted.

Adding the voice of the legal fraternity, M. Rajender Reddy, former Chairman of the undivided Andhra Pradesh Bar Council and then Chairman of the Telangana Advocates JAC during the statehood movement, described the nomination as a matter of pride for Telangana lawyers. “This is a big recognition for the Telangana people and the legal fraternity in particular.

We are elated and congratulate Sudershan Reddy,” he said. Rajender Reddy appealed to all political parties in the Telugu states to rally behind the candidature and showcase Telugu unity to the nation. He also revealed that a delegation of Telangana advocates would be traveling to New Delhi on August 20 to participate in the nomination programme the following day.
