In a highly emotional address to the Telangana Legislative Council today, former Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha formally tendered her resignation from the Council membership, marking the end of her association with the BRS party. Breaking down in tears multiple times during her speech, Kavitha described her departure from the "unethical" BRS as a relief and vowed to return stronger as a new political force dedicated to Telangana's people.
Kavitha, daughter of BRS supremo and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), highlighted her long-standing contributions to the Telangana statehood movement since 2006. She recounted founding Telangana Jagruti to mobilize women and youth, promoting cultural icons like Bathukamma festival, preserving Telangana's history and language, and lobbying in Delhi for state formation, including facilitating key meetings that advanced the cause.
Criticizing the BRS sharply, Kavitha alleged systemic restrictions imposed on her since 2014, lack of party support, and suppression for raising internal issues.
She accused the party of corruption in projects like the Secretariat, Ambedkar statue, Amar Jyoti, and district collectorates (citing flooding in Siddipet and Siricilla buildings), neglect of Telangana movement martyrs (no pensions despite promises), outsourcing exploitation, illegal sand mining leading to tragedies, and failure on core slogans of "Neellu, Nidulu, Niyamakalu" (water, funds, appointments). She opposed renaming TRS to BRS for national ambitions, questioning, "What did we achieve in Telangana to enter national politics?"
Kavitha claimed she was sidelined and suspended without due process—overnight formation of a disciplinary committee, no notice or explanation sought—calling the BRS constitution an "eight-page joke" lacking constitutional spirit and ethics. She swore on Lord Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy and her sons that her struggle was for self-respect, not assets, refuting Congress narratives of family property disputes.
Despite facing ED/CBI cases alone (attributing them to BJP's grudge against KCR) without party backing, Kavitha expressed happiness at leaving the BRS. She praised Congress for exposing BRS failures but warned the ruling party against repeating similar mistakes.
In a significant announcement, Kavitha declared that Telangana Jagruti would be transformed into a full-fledged political party to contest upcoming elections. Emphasizing the need for a new political path focused on youth, women, unemployed, students, and marginalized sections—including left sympathizers—she urged blessings as "one woman stepping forward" to build an alternative that truly serves Telangana's aspirations.
"As an individual, I am leaving this House today, but I will return powerfully to fulfill people's dreams," Kavitha concluded, promising continued public service and inspiration for women's political representation, which remains abysmally low in the state.
Her resignation, first submitted in September 2025 following suspension, was reiterated on the floor, with a request for immediate acceptance to Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy.
