Minister for Roads and Buildings Komatireddy Venkat Reddy stated that the main goal of State government is to empower the rural women economically.
The Minister handed over cheques of Rs. 50 lakh to 50 women from self-help groups for setting up solar battery units under the Indira Mahila Swashakti scheme through Pratik Foundation, at the Collectorate office here on Friday.
"For the first time in Telangana, with the aim of economically empowering rural women, this project has been taken up with 50 women from Aitipamula village of Kattanguru mandal in Nalgonda district, to generate renewable energy with solar batteries," he said.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the programme would be very useful for strengthening women economically.
"Women need not work for the project, they can earn additional income while doing their work. Solar battery energy units are being set up with the help of Svabags Lab so that the landless poor can support their families by earning an income of Rs. 3,000 to 4,000 per month. This is the first such programme in the Telangana State," Komatireddy disclosed.
