Calls for a people’s movement

BJP MP and Telangana Cricket Association (TCA) Patron Konda Vishweshwar Reddy on Tuesday called for a people’s movement to secure Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recognition for the Telangana Cricket Association. Addressing a round table conference organised by the TCA in Hyderabad, the Chevella MP said granting Associate Membership to TCA was essential for the growth of cricket in Telangana’s districts and rural areas.

The conference brought together former cricketers, women players, district representatives, sports activists and cricket stakeholders to discuss the future of cricket administration in the State and the need for equal opportunities for young players.

TCA General Secretary Dharam Guruva Reddy presented the association’s journey over the past decade, highlighting its grassroots initiatives, legal battles, district-level expansion and the achievements of players supported by the TCA platform.

Konda Vishweshwar Reddy alleged that cricket administration in Telangana remained concentrated in Hyderabad, leaving talented players from districts without proper opportunities. He said the present system had failed to create a strong pathway for rural cricketers and pointed to allegations of corruption and administrative irregularities.

“The future of Telangana cricket cannot remain hostage to a failed system. If cricket development is the goal, BCCI must seriously consider granting Associate Membership to TCA, which has consistently worked at the grassroots level,” he said.

The MP urged stakeholders to take the movement beyond courtrooms and build public awareness to support Telangana cricketers. “Let us convert the TCA movement into a people’s movement by mobilising public opinion and democratic pressure,” he said.

Telangana activist Vithal also addressed the gathering and appealed to citizens and sports lovers to unite against corruption in cricket administration. Drawing parallels with the Telangana statehood movement, he called for public campaigns and social media outreach to strengthen the demand. The conference adopted a resolution seeking accountability and transparency in cricket administration and demanded action over controversies and allegations that have surfaced over the years.

Participants said Telangana had abundant cricketing talent across districts and that BCCI recognition for TCA would help identify and nurture young players lacking opportunities. Former TCA State President Endala Lakshminarayana, Vice President Dr Pesaru Vijay Chander Reddy, Governing Council members, women cricketers and district representatives attended the meeting.
