Due to heavy rains in the upper areas, the Krishna river is in spate. Due to this, there is a large inflow of flood water into Srisailam reservoir. For the past 15 days, the reservoir has been flooded with floods from upper areas. The inflow of Srisailam project is expected to continue to be 1,56,554 cusecs on Monday. There has been no outflow so far. The full water level of the reservoir was 885 feet and the present water level of Srisailam project has reached 872.50 feet.
Only 12.50 feet is less for the reservoir to be filled. The full storage capacity of Srisailam project is 215.7080 TMCs and at present it is 152.4941 TMCs. Official sources said if more water enters the reservoir, the gates are likely to be opened today or tomorrow. The Tungabhadra river is overflowing due to heavy rains in Maharashtra and Karnataka. The Jurala project is receiving a huge amount of water from Almatti dam.
Out of the 1,56,554 cusecs of flood water flowing into Srisailam reservoir, 26,072 cusecs of water will come from Jurala and 1,30,482 cusecs from spillway. No water was released from Sunkesala or Handrineeva projects. So far, 621 cusecs of water have been released to Andhra Pradesh for power generation on Monday. Officials said 6,904 cusecs of water has been used for Telangana.
