Andhra Pradesh Minister for Women Development, Child Welfare and Tribal Welfare Gummidi Sandhya Rani on Monday said the state government has achieved significant progress in women, child and tribal welfare sectors during the last two years under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan. The minister stated that the government has focused on moving beyond welfare towards empowerment, ensuring safety, nutrition, education and livelihood opportunities for vulnerable sections of society.
She said nearly 20 lakh beneficiaries are receiving services through 56,746 Anganwadi centres across the state. To strengthen the system, the government recruited more than 11,000 Anganwadi teachers and helpers, while infrastructure improvements worth about Rs 100 crore were undertaken in 10,000 centres. Additionally, 5G smartphones were distributed to Anganwadi workers to enhance digital monitoring of nutrition and health services. Highlighting women’s safety initiatives, Sandhya Rani said One Stop Centres have been established in all 26 districts, providing legal, medical and psychological support to women. She added that the government had prevented 3,393 child marriages over the past two years.
In the tribal welfare sector, the minister said the state is providing education through 2,715 tribal educational institutions, including ashram schools, residential schools and hostels. The government has also improved student facilities and intensified efforts to tackle sickle cell anaemia in tribal regions.
She noted that tribal farmers are being encouraged to cultivate value-added crops such as coffee, pepper and turmeric, while marketing support and financial assistance are being extended to improve incomes. The minister also highlighted the government’s strict action against ganja cultivation in tribal areas and its efforts to improve road connectivity and healthcare access in remote habitations.
Sandhya Rani reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring inclusive development, empowerment and social justice for women, children and tribal communities across Andhra Pradesh.
