Andhra Pradesh Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh launched a scathing attack on the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government, accusing its leaders of orchestrating large-scale corruption, including the alleged looting of the sacred Tirumala temple wealth. Taking to social media platform X on Saturday, Lokesh alleged that “YSRCP gangsters spared nothing, from mines and lands to forests and even Lord Venkateswara’s offerings.”
Lokesh claimed that a massive misappropriation of the Parakamani (temple treasury) funds had taken place under the YSRCP regime, with the active involvement of senior leaders and former Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Chairman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy. He accused the party of not only plundering natural resources but also desecrating the sanctity of the temple, betraying the trust of millions of devotees worldwide.
“The gang that looted mines, lands, forests, and even the people of Andhra Pradesh did not spare Lord Venkateswara’s wealth. Backed by the blessings of the Tadepalli Palace and with the support of then TTD Chairman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, thieves looted crores from the sacred Parakamani,” Lokesh wrote. He further alleged that the stolen money was funneled into real estate ventures, with shares distributed from Tirupati to Tadepalli.
“When crores were stolen by Ravi Kumar, who fled with hundi collections, the then Chairman Karunakar Reddy and his associates attempted to settle the case through Lok Adalat instead of pursuing justice,” he claimed.
The minister said, “The Jagan gang committed every possible offence against Lord Venkateswara. They even adulterated the famous Tirumala laddu, which devotees treat as a holy prasadam. Annadanam was corrupted. Darshan tickets were sold in bulk, making it difficult for ordinary devotees to have the Lord’s darshan,” Lokesh charged.
Lokesh also recalled how TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu had earlier appealed to Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy not to interfere in temple sanctity. Despite knowing the consequences of desecrating the seven hills, Jagan and Karunakar Reddy allowed the Parakamani to be looted,” he said.
The minister highlighted the recent circulation of videos allegedly linked to the Parakamani scandal, which, he said, exposed the previous regime’s misdeeds. “The sins of the Jagan gang have come to light. Videos of Parakamani loot are now public. Tomorrow, the accused themselves will reveal the complete list of YSRCP crimes,” Lokesh said, hinting at further disclosures that could shake the opposition.
The remarks come at a politically sensitive time, with the TDP-led coalition government seeking to consolidate public support by projecting itself as a clean and reform-oriented administration. Lokesh’s frontal attack against YSRCP is part of a broader narrative being pushed by the ruling party: that the previous government not only drained the state’s resources but also desecrated its most revered religious institutions.
Political observers note that such allegations particularly involving Tirumala, a temple of immense spiritual and emotional significance are likely to resonate strongly with the public. With videos and testimonies expected to surface, the issue may further intensify the political slugfest between the TDP and YSRCP.
Lokesh concluded his statement by demanding accountability for what he described as “the ultimate betrayal of faith.” “Stealing from the hundi of Lord Venkateswara is not just financial corruption; it is a sin against every devotee. The guilty must be brought to justice, no matter how powerful they are,” he declared.
In the meantime, YSRCP party retweeted , Babu and Lokesh are using Tirupati temple for political gain and spreading misinformation and refuted the video that Lokesh are fabricated and are using ‘God’ for political gain.
As the controversy deepens, all eyes will be on the government’s next steps and whether formal investigations will be launched to substantiate Lokesh’s explosive allegations.
