In 2025, GINA (Global Initiative for Asthma) chose the theme “MAKE INHALED TREATMENTS ACCESSIBLE FOR ALL” for the world asthma day which is observed every year on first Tuesday of May to increase awareness on asthma.
Asthma is one of the most prevalent chronic lung condition affecting almost all age groups and responsible for 4 million deaths worldwide of which some are preventable deaths. Asthma is a chronic lung condition which has symptoms like chest tightness, cough and wheeze which vary over time and in intensity.
Early diagnosis and prompt treatment will reduce the symptoms and exacerbations.Available treatment options for asthma are many but mainly inhalers - which are in various forms like metered dose inhaler MDI, Dry powder inhaler DPI and also nebulisation.
Not only using inhalers - following proper technique while using them is important in controlling symptoms.Prevention of asthma in children can be done by avoiding exposure to tobacco smoke during pregnancy and first year of life, avoiding use of broad spectrum antibiotics during first year of life and maintaining healthy diet from childhood.
