Telangana Mala Political JAC Chairman and All Mala Students Association (AMSA) State General Secretary Dr. Manchala Lingaswamy has urged the state government to allocate a ministerial post to the Mala community in the upcoming cabinet expansion. Speaking at a press conference held at Osmania University on Thursday, Dr. Lingaswamy highlighted the significant role played by the Malas in the second phase of the Telangana movement.
He stated that Malas had contributed as intellectuals, students, poets, artists, and activists during the struggle for statehood, and later, in rebuilding the new Telangana. He emphasized that the community worked tirelessly to bring the Congress party to power, especially after the downfall of KCR's decade-long rule.
“Malas have always been a traditional vote bank for the Congress,” Dr. Lingaswamy said, “but after coming to power, the Congress has neglected our community both in governance and nominated posts.”
He called the treatment of the Mala community unjust and warned that if the Congress fails to recognize the community's contributions and allocate a cabinet berth, it could face backlash in the upcoming local body elections. He demanded that due representation be ensured in the interest of social justice.
