Medchal-Malkajgiri District Additional Collector Vijayender Reddy has directed officials of all concerned departments to intensify efforts to eliminate drug abuse, stressing that narcotic addiction poses a serious threat to society and the future of young people.

Chairing the District Anti-Drug Committee meeting at the Collectorate on Wednesday, the Additional Collector said drug addiction leads to severe physical and mental health problems and called for coordinated action to curb its spread across the district.

He instructed welfare department officials to organise monthly awareness programmes and rallies in boys' hostels to educate students about the dangers of drug abuse. The Health Department was asked to conduct awareness campaigns on the harmful effects of narcotics and ensure that necessary medical support is available for those affected.

Vijayender Reddy also directed the Police Department to carry out regular inspections and strengthen surveillance in sensitive areas to prevent the supply and use of drugs. He emphasised the need for special monitoring in schools and colleges to protect students from falling prey to substance abuse.

The Additional Collector instructed all departments to prepare a detailed action plan and submit periodic reports on the awareness programmes and enforcement measures undertaken. He said coordinated efforts by all departments would help make Medchal-Malkajgiri a leading district in the fight against drugs.

District SC Welfare Officer Vinod Kumar, Tribal Welfare Officer Padmaja, Drug Inspector Mounika, Additional DCPs Purushottam and Sudarshan, along with other officials, attended the meeting.
