Medicover team treats rare gynaec disorder

Doctors at Medicover Woman & Child Hospital, HITEC City, treated a 41-year-old woman suffering from life-threatening vaginal bleeding caused by a rare vaginal hemangioma—a tumour of blood vessels in the genital tract.

The patient was admitted with severe blood loss. Doctors diagnosed the bleeding could lead to sudden and potentially fatal haemorrhage if not treated promptly. The patient was first stabilized with blood transfusions and intensive medical care. After that, the team performed uterine artery and vaginal artery embolisation, a procedure which controlled the bleeding without the need for open surgery.

The patient recovered well and is currently in stable condition. Dr. T. Raghu Thejaswi mentioned that the immediate priority was to stabilize the patient with blood transfusions. Dr. J. Shalini Narayan added that early diagnosis and timely multidisciplinary intervention are crucial in managing such high-risk gynaecological emergencies Dr. Saiteja Namala, Consultant Interventional Radiologist recalled that using advanced catheter-based techniques, the doctors achieved immediate control of haemorrhage while preserving surrounding healthy tissues.
