Medicover Hospitals, Secunderabad unveiled on Monday a massive helmet sculpture bearing the message "Helmet On, Worries Gone." The landmark installation is designed to serve as a reminder to two-wheeler commuters about the life-saving importance of wearing a certified helmet. The sculpture was inaugurated in the presence of T. Vinay Krishna Reddy, Commissioner, Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation and B. Sumathi, Commissioner of Police, Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate, who attended as Chief Guests.
Addressing the gathering, both dignitaries underscored that helmet use is not merely a traffic regulation but a personal responsibility — one that can mean the difference between life and death. In 2024, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari revealed that 30,000 of the 1.80 lakh road deaths that year involved two-wheeler riders not wearing helmets. Doctors from Medicover Hospitals Secunderabad stressed the direct clinical consequences of this gap.
"The trauma we see in our emergency wards is preventable. Riders who arrive without helmets consistently present with far more severe head injuries — many don't survive, and many who do face permanent disability," said Dr. Uday Krishna Myneni, Chief Orthopaedician & Head of Department, Medicover Hospitals Secunderabad. Dr. Ramesh Shighakoli, Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon added that traumatic brain injuries from road accidents are among the most devastating cases in neurosurgery — and among the most preventable.
