In a major boost to Telangana’s infrastructure and industrial growth, decks have been cleared for the Government of India's state-of-the-art Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Parkibanda village, Manoharabad Mandal, Medak district. Spearheaded by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the project is part of the Centre’s ambitious plan to develop 35 MMLPs across India to strengthen logistics efficiency, reduce costs, and integrate multi-modal transport systems.
Spread over 315 acres, including 73 acres of government land and the rest predominantly agricultural holdings, the Telangana MMLP represents an estimated investment of ₹1,775 crore. The Medak district administration has successfully completed land acquisition, spending ₹41 crore on compensation, ensuring the site is ready for immediate development. A tripartite Memorandum of Understanding has been signed among National Highways Logistics Management Ltd. (NHLML), Telangana State Trade Promotion Corporation Ltd. (TSTPC), and Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL) to ensure smooth coordination and execution.
Speaking to this paper, Medak Collector Rahul Raj informed that land acquisition formalities have been completed and the same has been informed to the Centre.
The facility will initially handle 1.47 million metric tonnes of cargo annually by 2028, with a projected capacity of nearly 20 million metric tonnes by 2070. Strategically located just 5 km from Manoharabad Railway Station and linked to the Pune–Vijayawada National Highway, the park will integrate with the Regional Ring Road and provide seamless access to major freight corridors connecting Mumbai, Jawaharlal Nehru Port, Bengaluru, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Visakhapatnam, and Kakinada.
The MMLPs form the backbone of the Centre’s vision to modernise India’s supply chain under initiatives like PM GatiShakti. These parks are being developed to integrate road, rail, air, and waterways to reduce transit times and logistics costs, thereby making Indian industries more competitive. Of the 35 identified parks, five key facilities in Jogighopa (Assam), Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Bengaluru (Karnataka), Nagpur (Maharashtra), and Indore (Madhya Pradesh) are already under development and are expected to be operational between 2025 and 2027.
The Telangana MMLP will become a logistics hub for major industrial areas such as Sanathnagar, Azamabad, Jeedimetla, Balanagar, and Cherlapally. It will feature advanced warehousing, rail terminals, cargo aggregation centres, truck parking, and commercial zones. By creating significant employment opportunities in transportation and warehousing, the park is expected to strengthen Telangana’s industrial ecosystem, attract investments, and enhance the state's export potential.
This landmark project is set to position Telangana as a key logistics and trade hub in South India, catalysing industrial expansion and contributing to India’s aspiration of becoming a global logistics leader. It is expected to significantly enhance employment opportunities in the transportation and warehousing sectors, while streamlining supply chains for industries around Hyderabad and across Telangana.
The state government is being encouraged to complement the MMLP with SEZ initiatives in high-growth sectors like IT, biotech, and aerospace. In a Lok Sabha response, the Centre has extended it support for collaborative projects to boost exports and economic growth.
