Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy has raised serious concerns over the illegal sale of urea in Telangana, alleging that the fertiliser is being sold in the black market at inflated rates, causing distress to farmers during the crucial cultivation season.
Highlighting the issue, the Minister stated that while urea is officially priced between ₹2,200 and ₹2,400 per tonne, reports indicate it is being sold illegally for as high as ₹4,000 per tonne. He warned that such malpractices could severely impact agricultural productivity and harm the interests of farmers.
Kishan Reddy strongly criticised the Congress-led state government, accusing it of negligence in curbing the black-market operations. He called for immediate corrective measures, including strict monitoring, enforcement, and action against hoarding and illegal distribution networks.
The Union Minister also stressed the importance of transparency in the fertiliser supply chain and emphasised the need for public accountability to ensure fertilisers reach farmers at regulated prices. He assured that the Central Government would coordinate with state authorities to address the crisis and restore fair access to essential farming inputs.
