In a major push to industrialization, Andhra Pradesh is set to witness one of its largest-ever investments with ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AMNS India) establishing a massive greenfield integrated steel plant in the state. The foundation stone for the project will be laid on March 23 by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, alongside Union ministers and industry leaders, at Rajayyapeta in Nakkapalli mandal of Anakapalli district.

The project, with a staggering investment of Rs 1,35,964 crore, is expected to generate employment for nearly one lakh people, both directly and indirectly. Spread across 5,465 acres, the steel plant will be developed in two phases, with a total production capacity of 17.8 million metric tonnes per annum. The first phase will produce 7.3 MMT, while the second phase will add another 10.5 MMT capacity.

Officials said the project marks a significant milestone in the coalition government’s 21-month effort to attract large-scale investments and position Andhra Pradesh as a key industrial destination in the country. Once operational, the plant is expected to play a crucial role in meeting India’s growing steel demand while strengthening the state’s economic base.

In addition to the steel plant, AMNS India will also establish a captive port with a handling capacity of 50 MMT, over an area of 316 acres, involving an additional investment of Rs 11,198 crore. This port alone is projected to create around 6,000 jobs, further enhancing the project’s economic impact.

The development is also expected to transform the Visakhapatnam economic region into a major industrial hub. To support the project, the state government has initiated infrastructure upgrades, including a four-lane road connecting the plant site to National Highway-16, along with ensuring uninterrupted supply of water and power.

The foundation ceremony is expected to be attended by Union Steel and Heavy Industries Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, Minister of State Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, IT and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh, and several other dignitaries.
