300 million across the world effected by Asthma: Dr Syed Abdul Aleem

Dr Syed Abdul Aleem, Senior Pulmonologist at CARE Hospitals, Musheerabad said on Sunday that 35 million people across the country and 300 million people across the world are victims of Asthma. Speaking to media he said that if not treated properly, it can seriously affect a person’s quality of life. He mentioned that in urban areas of India, about 1 in 10 children and 1 in 12 adults suffer from asthma. 

He informed that India accounts for nearly 42% of the global asthma-related deaths, many of which could be prevented . He informed that with early diagnosis, regular treatment, and correct use of inhalers, emergency visits can be reduced by up to 60%.   

Dr Bharati, Chief Operating Officer, CARE Hospitals, Musheerabad stated, “Asthma is a chronic but manageable condition. However, misconceptions, underdiagnosis, and lack of awareness often lead to complications. We aim to educate people about asthma symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, chest tightness and breathlessness and provide strategies to avoid common triggers like dust, allergens, pollution, and smoke.”

The , CARE Hospital has announced a Free Asthma Awareness and Screening Camp on the occasion of World Asthma Day, observed globally on the first Tuesday of May. As part of the camp, free consultations with a pulmonologist and free Pulmonary Function Tests (PMT) will be offered to all participants on May 6, 2025, from 10 am 4 pm at CARE Hospitals, Musheerabad. 

The event will also feature an interactive awareness session on identifying asthma symptoms, avoiding common triggers, and following correct treatment protocols. The theme for World Asthma Day 2025 is "Make Inhaled Treatments Accessible for all".
