The Telangana government has decided to give one more chance for families in the state who missed the Caste Survey process conducted 50 days earlier. This re-survey will be held from February 16 to 28. Post this exercise, the Telangana government would release the updated figures that would be placed before the State Cabinet for its nod in first week of March. The same would be tabled during the budget session of the Telangana assembly soon afterwards.

The state would then try to pass the bill for providing 42 per cent reservation to OBCs in politics, education and employment. The assembly resolution would be sent to the Centre for getting the formalities done in parliament paving the way for legal sanctity to the reservations. Until this process is done, the Gram Panchayat elections in the state are expected to be put on hold.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and his Cabinet Ministers held a day-long meeting on the Gram Panchayat elections, the Caste survey outcomes, BC reservations quota etc. Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and other ministers as well as senior officials took part.

Briefing media on the details, Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said that the resurvey decision was taken to give opportunity to those who failed to get enumerated earlier for various reasons. This is a great opportunity to take part in the survey for K Chandrashekar Rao, KT Rama Rao and various others comprising the 3.1 per cent population of the state who missed the bus earlier.

“We are giving a chance once again. I call upon KCR and KTR also to participate in the survey and get listed and counted in the state population figures," Bhatti said. He said the government is giving three options (either toll-free, online or approaching concerned officials physically) to get the re-survey done for such families. The enumerators, supervisors or MDOs at the block, division or mandal level could be approached to do the necessary formalities, Bhatti added.

Resurvey decision owing to majority population demand

When asked whether the government is putting off the GP polls for now, Bhatti said they have decided to fulfil the request of caste associations that sought complete data of the entire state and legal sanctity for BC reservations. Hence we are taking up this exercise again irrespective of the financial burden that may be incurred for conducting the process for nearly two weeks again.
