During the discussion on the Bill to amend the Telangana Panchayat Raj Act in the Assembly on Saturday, several MLAs urged the state government to change the names of certain villages, stating that the existing names sounded derogatory or inappropriate. The issue arose while the government moved a proposal to rename Jain Tirumalapur as Jaianna Tirumalapur, with Panchayat Raj Minister Dhanasri Anasuya (Seethakka) clarifying that the existing name was linked to Jainism. BJP MLA Palvai Harish Babu proposed an unofficial amendment seeking the renaming of Lanjaguda in Sirpur Kagaznagar as Nandiguda, as demanded by local residents, and also suggested renaming Lambadi Hatti as Prem Singh Nagar. Parigi Congress MLA Rammohan Reddy requested that Donga Enkepally be renamed Sanjeeva Nagar.
Responding to the demands, Minister Seethakka said the proposals would be referred to the respective district collectors for detailed reports, after which the government would take a final decision.
